Necklace with a porcelain pendant, a miniature sculpture of a pig and a mouse. Henriëtta picked a red rose, so her friend Max can have a smell; a porcelain pendant on a sterling silver rope chain.
Each pendant is hand sculpted in porcelain clay and fired in a ceramic kiln twice. First a bisque firing, then I glaze it and fire it a second time at the high glazing temperature where porcelain gets it satin sheen where left unglazed.
Sterling silver rope chain 17 3/4 inches or 45 cm.
The porcelain label (with two trees logo attached with a silk string) prevents the pendant from faling off in case you accidentally let go of one side of the chain. The lock on the other side secures the pendant from falling of on that side.
Each piece is handmade by me in porcelain clay. Porcelain clay is different in composition from other clays, because of this it’s stronger. Because it’s stronger one can create much thinner items; and where it’s thin, it’s translucent, also typical for porcelain. It need to be fired at a temperature which is higher than average for other clays as well. It’s fired twice, once at a low temperature, after which I can apply glazes. And the second firing at the high temperature were it goes translucent. Natural porcelain is white, but one can add pigments or stains to the clay to give it other colours, the colour is then throughout. When a glaze is applied, it is only on the surface.
Soak in a soft soap solution and use a brush and toothpaste if need be, rinse and dry well.
