Peter isn’t reading a book, like the other rabbits in this serie of cups. Peter is using his books to have a peek in your cup. Het stacked his books on a turkey tail mushroom.
Hand built vessel in porcelain. For the bottom a mold was used, a sheet of clay for the upper half. The animals and other adornments are always hand sculpted from porcelian clay. All is fired as one piece. First a bisque firing, after this the piece was glazed and fired again at well over 1220°C.
Height: 4 inches or 10 cm.
Each piece is handmade by Annemiek Hamelink in porcelain clay. Porcelain clay is different in composition from other clays, because of this it’s stronger. Because it’s stronger one can create much thinner items; and where it’s thin, it’s translucent, also typical for porcelain. It need to be fired at a temperature which is higher than average for other clays as well. It’s fired twice, once at a low temperature, after which she can apply glazes. And the second firing at the high temperature were it goes translucent. Natural porcelain is white, but one can add pigments or stains to the clay to give it other colors, the color is then throughout. When a glaze is applied, it is only on the surface.
Hand washing is always an option. If the item is all porcelain it can be washed in the dishwasher, be careful when stacking it.
All my items come in gift wrapped. This will go in to a box with bubble wrap or other protective material for shipping. For this I use as much recycled boxes, wrap as possible, to safe the environment.
